New Spa School in Christchurch

he National School of Aesthetics in Christchurch has added a Spa School to its range of offerings.

The spa facilities are used by up to 10 students per intake, with one to two intakes per year. The main course offered is the Diploma in Spa Therapies, a year-long level 5 qualification approved by NZQA. The Diploma is the most comprehensive spa therapies course currently available in New Zealand. ITEC, CIBTAC and CIDESCO spa therapies diplomas and certificates are also on offer.

The school’s spa therapies tutor is Meg Logan, who has extensive experience in spa therapies in New Zealand and overseas. 

Dedicated space

Operations director Scott Fack says a dedicated space for spa therapies training has been set up (see photos). "We also have a spa changing room and a lounge area. This room will eventually have computers in it so students can access the internet for the research section of the Diploma course," he says.

Scott Fack says students choose to study at the National School of Aesthetics because of its dedication to high quality training, as evidenced through its three-year audit cycle with NZQA.

"We also have small class sizes; in fact amongst the smallest in New Zealand with 10 students in total and five in some practical classes. Our dedicated, modern spa therapies facility is outfitted with professional, high-standard equipment."

He says the school’s 22-year history of providing high-quality, relevant training under the original owners’ guidance is also important. "The original owners are here on a day-to-day basis, fostering their vision for the students and training at the school and ensuring quality standards are met or surpassed."

High course success rates

As well, the school boasts high course-completion, graduation and employment rates and is the only provider in New Zealand to offer a diploma-level course dedicated to spa therapies.

"Our Diploma in Spa Therapies has been described as ‘comprehensive’ and ‘very much needed’ by NZQA. It took us about three years to write with input from ITEC, CIBTAC, CIDESCO, staff at the school, students and graduates, and industry."
